Shaving Cream Marbling

This has been our favorite craft so far.  I found this idea on Come Together Kids.  You just spray shaving cream in a tray and then drop on paint.  Swirl the paint all over in the shaving cream.  Then lay your paper (cardstock) on top of the shaving cream design and lightly press down.  Finally, pull the paper off and scrape off the shaving cream mess from the paper using any straight edge (I used a ruler).  You are left with a beautiful design that can be reused a few times at least.  You can add more shaving cream and colors as you feel it is needed.

Today we made these bubble wrap prints from Skip to My Lou.  We had so much fun making them.  A few things we found were to use a larger brush to paint on the paint and to make larger shapes.

We made some water bombs today, but they took so long to make and we ended up breaking out the water balloons instead.

Can Stilts

Today we made stilts out of old cans.  Using an awl, poke two holes on either side of a can towards the top where the lid is still intact.  Then thread some yarn or string through the holes so that they come out to either side.  Take hold of the strings and then slide your foot in and walk.

Using two tin cans, we made some old fashioned phones.  We used an awl to poke a hole in each end and then tied a string inside each can through the hole.  We found that the string has to be pulled tight to hear the other person.

Our caterpillars finally arrived from Insect Lore! The kids are so excited.  Our container has 5 caterpillars and their food.  The kids are journaling the changes each day.
