This is such a fun and easy little craft for preschoolers.  Cut construction paper or sentence strip paper to fit around each child’s head and mark the spot to staple in place. Then, cut out the ears and staple onto the headband while not on the head.

I am in charge of the cranberry sauce this year and decided on this recipe from Emeril.  The original recipe can be found on the Food Network site.  The only thing I changed was doubling the sugar since I like the sauce sweet.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cranberries
  • Juice and zest from 1 orange
  • 1/4 cup Port
  • 1 cup sugar (Emeril uses 1/2 cup sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water

Directions

Stir the orange, zest, cranberries, sugar, port, and cinnamon in a saucepan over high heat.  Bring to a boil and then turn to simmer until the cranberries are soft and you can mush them with a spoon.  Add the cornstarch and water mixture.

I like to put seasonal shapes in the lamp shades for the kids.  I just tape in a shape on the inside.  I am still not sure if this is a fire hazard, so I make sure to not leave them on all night.  Here is a link about fire hazards and lamps.

With another day home from school, the kids are bored so I had to come up with some ideas to keep them entertained.  First we had some drawing lessons.  I chose this bear because it had a heart nose and we are working on some Valentine’s Day decorating.  The step by step directions for this bear can be found at Art Projects for Kids.

My oldest is great at making paper airplanes, so they did some flying for a while.

Finally, we did this cool snowflake. I thought the kids would be more into making this, but they were overwhelmed.  I ended up making these snowflakes while they flew their airplanes. The directions for the giant snowflake can be found at Attempting to Be Domestic.
