Tri-Bead Candy Cane Ornaments

The kids really wanted to do some Christmas crafts today so we picked up some tri-beads and made these candy canes.  You can use  7 inch pipe cleaners or 7 inch wire to string the beads on in a pattern.  Make sure to do a little loop with the wire at the bottom and top so that the beads don’t fall off. This is a great craft to work on fine motor skills and patterns.

Here is another idea that use tri-beads:

wand My son got the Scientific Explorer’s The Magic Science Wizard’s Kit from his great grandfather this summer.  He really enjoyed all of the experiments.  We spent a little over an hour doing all of them.  The kit is filled with many ingredients that you may already have in your house and it already has enough ingredients to do most of the experiments more than once.

Today we did geoboards for  quiet time activity.  Frank did a really neat house, but he wouldn’t recreate it for a photo.  This is his cool design.

Today it was raining so we had to come up with some fun things to entertain us inside.  Here is what we did.  First, we played Blue’s Clues where we put 3 handprints on items around the house to give glues as to what we wanted to do later.  It was much harder for the kids than I thought.  It was all Frank’s idea though so he was really interested.  Then we played checkers.  Finally, we played with the dominoes.  The kids built those long lines that you knock over, buildings and boats.  Frank played for over an hour with those.

Today Frank worked on some pictures using Ed Emberley’s Picture Pie Book.  It was so fun. Everything was made using a circle or a fraction of a circle.  Here is what he came up with. We will have to do this again when he starts learning about fractions.

Here is another creation from Picture Pie.  Frank chose this peacock for his friend’s birthday card.
