The kids and I made some homemade lemonade today to see how the taste compared to the kind you buy in the store. We all preferred the homemade kind and it was so simple. The recipe came from  Once we were done, the kids wrote down the recipe to put into their cookbook.

We also only had 3 lemons that when squeezed came out to 1/2 cup of lemon juice, so we had to adjust the recipe to 1/3. Here are the measurements we used:

3 small lemons (1/2 cup lemon juice)

2.5 cups water (1/3 of this amount is put aside for the sugar)

1/3 cup sugar, plus 2 Tablespoons sugar

Directions: Combine the sugar and 1/3 cup water in a saucepan.  Bring to boil until the sugar dissolves. Put this sugar mixture into the refrigerator until it is cool, about 20 minutes.  Mix the sugar mixture, lemon juice and remaining water together in a pitcher.  Enjoy!

*We also talked about expressions like a car being a lemon and “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”  I had the kids try the plain lemon first before adding any sugar.
